The phrase "variety is the spice of life" is often thrown around. If this phrase is true, then Steve Thompson writes quite spicy music indeed. Playing a blend of psychedelic folk with the tinge of progressive rock, Steve Thompson has written a wide variety of songs over the past several years. In early 2007, Thompson independently released his first album Allusions To A God via the internet quickly setting out to work on new material. Currently, Steve Thompson is preparing scads of new demos to be recorded "properly in a studio. " While his debut record was evenly split between sweeping instrumental pieces and lyrical pieces, Steve's new material promises to take on the guise of being friendlier and more accessible (also more oriented towards a folksy-acoustic style) Steve Thompson cites a variety of influences on his songwriting from the Berlin era Bowie to Pink Floyd to indie hit-makers Modest Mouse. A firm believer in using the studio as an instrument, Thompson believes recording is a fine balancing act between layering textures of sound and keeping a raw sonic experience that conveys the spirit of live music. |
